So Far Behind!

OK, so I missed pretty much the entire month of October, but it’s been a little crazy around here! So here are the main events and I’ll try to update accordingly.

Event 1) Steve’s40th Birthday!

Steve celebrated his 40th birthday this month! Since this was a “big one” took a little mini-break to Cleveland. I took Steve to a lovely dinner at Morton’s Steakhouse followed by seeing David Copperfield at the State Theater in downtown Cleveland. It was a total surprise! It was a great show and we had terrific seats. Afterwards we walked around downtown and then stayed the night at the Wyndham. The best part was the next morning as we were getting on the elevator for breakfast who should walk on but David Copperfield himself!! He did a bit of small talk and asked why we were there and I told him, of course, that we were celebrating Steve’s birthday. So as we are getting of the elevator, he tell us to enjoy our time and wished Steve a happy b-day!! How cool is that! Of course I planned the whole thing (wink).

We then went to Canton to celebrate with family, of which it was also Papa and Nana’s birthday this month as well. So big family shindig at the Tomaszewski’s with some great food and the girls had a great time.

Event 2) First Dance Recital of the Season

The girls had their very first dance recital of the season at Erie Orchards. This was Audra’s first time in front of the crowed and she did a great job! Her tap class danced to “Good Ship Lollypop” and they were ultra-cute! This was Claire’s second time around for the dance marathon and since she is in both tap and ballet she got to dance twice! She was so excited to be out there in front of all the people. It was a little crazy with the costume changes but you could not beat the smiles on their faces! Then we went around the orchard to see the animals and partake in some really good cider donuts and cookies. Unfortunately the next day Audra came down with strep and was out of school most of the week.

Event 3) Seeing Curious George LIVE at the Fox Theater in Detroit

The event that almost didn’t happen. I actually forgot that we had tickets since I had purchased them back in June but luckily they send out reminders. The morning of the show we decide to give the girls breakfast in the car so we can ensure we get there on time (it was a 10:30AM show). Well about half way there Audra decided to car sick to the point of her head spinning around. Luckily we buy stock in wipes so clean up was OK and thank goodness Cracker Barrel sells really cute girls clothes! We made it up there just as the show was starting. The theater was absolutely beautiful and the show was great! The actors were so enthusiastic and I actually really enjoyed it. The girls also though it was great. Afterwards we went to lunch at Hockeytown Cafe for lunch in the spirit of Aunt Meggie. I’m not sure the girls knew what to make of it. But is was fun and they had really good food.

Event 4) Pumpkin Patch

We went to Gusts Farm to pick pumpkins with Claire’s Kindergarten class and it was definitely an adventure. They had all kinds of animals to look at while perusing the pumpkins. The biggest thing was that the girls got to witness a live birth of a baby calf while we were there! Crazy! The farmers didn’t even realize that the cow was pregnant. But in front of a crowd of about 20 people+ kids – voila! Ewwww!

But we saw piglets, bunnies and several kitties while we were there picking out the perfect pumpkin. We went on a hay ride with her teachers and Claire had a great time playing/sliding in the hay. Of course we couldn’t leave without trying some baked goods. Claire then picked out the “perfect” Cinderella pumpkin while Audra had to have one with green on it. And the weather was beautiful, which made for a really great day.

Claire and Audra

I promise to update right after Halloween so that everyone can see the girls in their costumes. Claire is very excited to be Orphan Annie (after her favorite movie) and Audra is an ice princess (after Dora – snow princess episode).
